Я Маріуполь. Житло

"After everything we've been through, I'm just having a rest in social housing", says Tetiana Morgunova, an IDP from Mariupol

Tetiana Morgunova spent her entire life in Mariupol. She worked in commerce, later in the city council, and then retired. She planned to peacefully enjoy life in her hometown, but the russian invasion changed all her plans.

Tetiana was hiding from the russian bombardment together with her sister in a house in the city centre. In April, she managed to break the blockade and leave. She lived with relatives in Zaporizhzhia. When the "I'Mariupol" centre opened, she came for support and learned about the possibility of applying for social housing.

On 21 June 2024, the Mariupol resident received the keys to a room in social housing on Neil Armstrong Street in Dnipro. Now she is living in comfortable conditions and is very happy:

"People from other occupied communities say, “You have such good conditions”. I am very happy. There is a comfortable kitchen and a room, a common space where we watch TV. There are laundries and employees who help to do everything. So I can just relax here."

An important element of support for Tetiana was the opening of the "I'Mariupol. Health" medical hub in the social housing building. The woman has the opportunity to visit a doctor and have free examinations if necessary.

The "I'Mariupol" project is implemented by the Mariupol City Council with financial support from the French government, in partnership with the International Organization for Migration, in coordination with the Government of Ukraine and the Donetsk Regional Military Administration. The project is also supported by the GM "Proliska", UNHCR, Rinat Akhmetov Foundation and Grohe. The initiative has already created four social housing facilities for more than 1,300 Mariupol residents in Kyiv and Dnipro. New facilities are under construction in Chernivtsi, Kropyvnytskyi and Zaporizhzhia.
